Soccer (Football) / Fairs' Cup

FAIRS' CUP

Originally set up as a competition for cities where international fairs were held and unrelated to final placings in national competitions. The first few cups also saw the entry of several "city" teams, usually consisting of players of the better clubs of that city (Copenhagen for instance), some actually club teams. Even the first editions lasted more than a year. In the last three years known as "Runners Up Cup", with the participating teams already related to placings in domestic leagues. In 1971 was replaced by the UEFA Cup.
