Triathlon was added to the games in Sydney for the first time. Distances for the Olympic Games are completely different to those of the Hawaii Ironman. Olympic triathlon begins with a 1,500-meter open-water swim; the competitors then cycle for 43 kilometers and conclude with a 10-km run.
El triathlon se incluyó por primera vez en los Juegos de Sidney. Las distancias son mucho más cortas que las del Ironman de Hawaii. El triathlon olímpico consta de 1´5 km de natación, 40 km en bicicleta y 10 km de carrera.
